A significant leadership in the national market for trajectory measurement and drilling geophysics services has been achieved by the company Quality Survey Services (QSS), thanks to the fact that it has a highly trained team and state-of-the-art instrumentation.
Since its foundation in 2012, the firm has undergone permanent evolution, with long-term contracts and presence in the most important projects in the country, both in mining and in other industries. “Thanks to the trust achieved with our clients, based on constant loyalty, we have registered significant growth in these 10 years of presence in the market”, highlights César Sandoval González, General Manager of QSS.
Competitive advantages
Said trust, according to the executive, constitutes one of the main competitive advantages of the company, which is based on a permanent search for innovations to fulfill the commitments acquired with clients. Another differentiating factor is the state-of-the-art technology used by the firm, with a wide range of advanced instruments that are permanently renewed so that they do not fail. “That gives our customers peace of mind. We have more than 50 pieces of equipment in circulation, so we always have a backup”, he says.
In this sense, it highlights the support provided by having very direct contact with its suppliers, such as the Swedish brand SPT (Stockholm Precision Tools), which developed the GyroMaster, the most advanced technology in the field of gyroscopes. “Since it started, QSS has been the face of SPT in Chile”, affirms César Sandoval.
The same in the case of the Australian company NMRSA, creator of an instrument called BMR, which allows QSS to be the only ones on the market that have a tool to determine porosity, without radioactive load, and permeability. Added to these is LIM, a firm based in Luxembourg.
Adaptability
César Sandoval says that this important technological support allows them to make a difference in the two main services they offer, such as the measurement of the drilling trajectory and the geophysics of wells. In the first case, they manage two alternatives: Carry out the measurements directly, or lease the equipment. "The great advantage of doing it ourselves is that we use the GyroMaster, from the Swedish brand SPT," he says.
While for the second they use about 10 geophysical instruments such as optical and acoustic televiewer, IP, MAG, temp/conductivity, resistivity, FWS among others. It also highlights their ability to adapt to the different conditions of exploration projects, not only mining but also other highly complex areas. "We are the only company in Chile that has been in Antarctica working for three months on a high-investment project, where we did the complete geophysics of all the drilling wells that were requested," he details.
Stable team
And no less important, he adds, is having a stable, committed professional team that has been trained inside and outside of Chile. "In addition, we have a long list of long-term contracts developed for large clients such as Codelco, Barrick and BHP, among others."
Sandoval highlights the company's expansion process, seeking other technologies to supply the market, starting operations in Toronto, Canada. "That shows that QSS is not only focused on the local level, but has its energies put into growing abroad as well," he concludes.
